Delta Module Three

Delta Module three is designed to enable candidates to:

  • develop their knowledge in relation to specialisms within English language teaching
  • develop their knowledge of the principles of curriculum design and assessment in an English language teaching context, and to be able to apply it to a specific group of learners
  • synthesise all of their learning into a project which can be coherently presented to a third party

The course features are:

  • Input sessions providing in-depth coverage of the five units of the syllabus
  • Personalised study plans for background reading and research
  • Individual tutorials providing feedback and recommendations on each stage of the assignment writing process

Syllabus Overview

The syllabus consists of five units of learning that deal with specific topic areas in the teaching of ESOL:

  • Unit 1 Research into specialist areas
  • Unit 2 Syllabus design: principles, influences on, methodological effects of and major syllabus types as applied to a specific learning context
  • Unit 3 Designing syllabus and teaching programmes to meet the needs of learners in a specific context of a selected specialisation
  • Unit 4 Course design and development in a specific context of a selected specialisation
  • Unit 5 The principles and practice of testing and assessment and application to a specialist area

Module Three achieves this through a focus on the main types of syllabus and the methods for conducting needs analysis within different English language teaching specialisms. Candidates are introduced to research skills and the theory and techniques behind assignment planning and syllabus design.

Module Three also looks at assessment and its impact on syllabus content and teaching methodology.

Assessment & Grading

Delta Module Three is assessed via a 4 500-word extended written assignment.

Grades awarded are Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit, Pass or Fail.
