IHLAC - IH Language Awareness Course



WHO IS IT FOR?

  • Qualified teachers wanting to develop their language awareness beyond initial training.


COURSE OBJECTIVES

To familiarise participants with descriptions of language commonly found in coursebooks and other published materials ('pedagogical grammar'). To enable course participants to critique such descriptions, both in terms of their descriptive accuracy, and their usefulness to learners.


COURSE CONTENT

11 modules covering: describing language, tense, auxiliaries and operators, question tags, modality, reported speech, future forms, forms with ‘have’ and ‘be’ and conditional sentences.


STRUCTURE AND ASSESSMENT

The course is run entirely online by qualified tutors. Candidates are assessed on a portfolio of homework tasks and a detailed lesson plan that analyses a course book language area.


TIME COMMITMENT

12 weeks, with a minimum of 5 hours per week online and doing tasks.


HOW TO APPLY

Firstly, to be considered you need to meet the following requirements:

Secondly, you need to complete the application form and email, post or fax it to us.  If your initial application is successful then you will be invited for interview.  In some cases we may request additional information before your application can be considered further.  Overseas applicants will be interviewed by Skype. 

Successful candidates will receive a formal acceptance email, together with details for payment.  We can only reserve places on courses for applicants who have made an initial deposit.  Full payment must be made four weeks before the course starts.

    • Applicants need to be qualified teachers with at least one year's full-time experience.
    • Applicants require regular / daily access to the internet with a good connection.
    • Applicants need to be able to dedicate 30 hours to the course during an eleven week period.
